Green Globes Ratings for Daniel Kahikina Akaka VA Clinic

April 2024

This is our second sustainability VA clinic success, the first being the Silverdale VA Clinic in Washington!

The Daniel Kahikina Akaka VA Clinic just earned two Green Globes ratings from the Green Building Institute! This 114,000 SF facility located on the west side of O’ahu in Kapolei, Hawaii, will serve our veterans. The program encompasses primary care, mental health, specialty care, audiology, ophthalmology, radiology, prosthetics, and physical therapy programs. Additionally, the facility will house a laboratory, pharmacy, and veterans’ services. It was designed to offer a welcoming environment; diffuse daylighting is provided throughout the clinic from light monitors. The building features a mix of rooftop photovoltaic arrays and building-integrated photovoltaic canopies with a total capacity of 567 kW. This is a beautiful building that the entire community is excited about due to the expected impact on veteran health on the island.

Säzän Group was the overall Green Globes champion for the project, provided technical guidance to the design team and the contractor, and managed the overall certification process.
