Säzän Group provided electrical engineering and communications consulting services for the predesign, design, and construction phases for the new $28 million Allied Health and Early Childhood Development Center. The two programs were previously housed in deficient facilities scattered on and off the Peninsula College campus in Port Angeles, Washington.

With classrooms and state of the art technology that mirrors the work environment, this project gave the College’s allied health departments new dedicated classroom and lab space and provides the early childhood development programs with new early childhood education and childcare facilities.

Säzän Group’s pre-design scope of work included evaluating electrical code and regulatory agency requirements, reviewing existing site conditions, and preparing technical narratives and construction cost estimates for electrical systems.

The design scope included power distribution, emergency power, efficiency LED lighting for interiors and site lighting, building egress lighting, data/telecom system pathways, and fire alarm system. In addition, Säzän Group provided technology consulting for distance learning and audio/visual systems utilizing the campus Systimax standard for enterprise network design.

The site was small and there was no room for the padmount transformer needed to power the building. Säzän Group investigated the possibility of using the transformer serving the adjacent science building and found that it had sufficient spare capacity to serve both buildings. This result was a space saving solution on the site that saved the cost of purchasing and installing a new transformer.
