NAVFAC NW Fire Station Assessments

Säzän Group provided MEP engineering assessment services as part of a comprehensive evaluation of four fire stations: Bangor Building 7600, Keyport Building 76, and Bremerton Buildings 435 and 503.
The task order required detailed existing conditions studies to determine whether each facility should be repaired, remodeled, or fully replaced to meet current Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) standards, Fire Codes (FC), and Basic Facility Requirements.
The assessment encompassed evaluations of structural integrity, safety standards compliance, functional efficiency, and overall operational effectiveness. Säzän Group’s team conducted field investigations, data collection, and systems analysis to identify deficiencies, potential hazards, and opportunities for upgrades. A key focus was determining the feasibility of repair versus replacement by examining whether the existing building footprint could accommodate both current operations and anticipated growth needs.
When facilities had adequate space, Säzän Group developed conceptual sketches and Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) construction costs to bring them into UFC compliance and reconfigure them for expanded use. Where existing footprints were insufficient, the team quantified additional square footage requirements and identified site constraints preventing expansion. In such cases, Säzän Group prepared conceptual sketches for new facilities along with ROM costs for replacement construction.
The intent of these studies was to provide the Navy with clear, data-driven recommendations for improving the quality of life for firefighters and ensuring that all fire stations meet current codes, safety standards, and functional demands. Säzän Group’s assessments will guide future decisions regarding the rehabilitation or replacement of these critical emergency response facilities.
