Matthew Combe is the Director of Decarbonization Strategy at Säzän Group, bringing more than a decade of leadership in sustainable design, environmental management, and clean energy innovation. He specializes in advancing high-performance, low-carbon buildings by reducing energy use and carbon emissions while enhancing occupant health. Matthew’s expertise spans both existing buildings and new construction, where he develops integrated strategies that deliver measurable improvements in building performance. He is passionate about fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, aligning stakeholders around shared sustainability goals to achieve practical, achievable outcomes.
Previously, Matthew led citywide emissions reduction efforts as Executive Director of the Seattle 2030 District and managed sustainability programs for Amazon’s Worldwide Grocery Stores real estate portfolio, driving significant operational and embodied carbon reductions. His work is dedicated to helping teams create a future where healthy, efficient, low-carbon buildings are the standard.
Outside of the office, Matthew lives in Queen Anne with his wife, new baby daughter Arwyn, their dog Norman, and guinea pig Rose. He loves golf, paddle boarding, skiing, snowboarding, travel, and having dinners with friends. All of this will continue to happen with a new baby; he asks us not to burst his bubble and tell him otherwise.
