Joel is a Managing Principal at Säzän Group with nearly 30 years of experience tailoring, managing, and delivering successful consulting solutions to clients. He is deeply committed to managing projects for the success of local communities. Since 2002, Joel has been a preeminent Facility Condition Assessment (FCA) and facility planning specialist and leader for public agency asset management and planning. He has facilitated hundreds of independent technical review projects using the formal Value Analysis and Constructability Review methodologies for private developers, public agencies, and educational institutions.

Joel is a Washington OSPI Certified Building Conditions Assessor (BCA) and an Oregon Department of Education Certified Assessor. He holds an MBA in International Business and an MA in International Affairs from Ohio University. His Bachelor of Arts is in Languages and Linguistics from Georgetown University. Joel is active in many industry organizations, including the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE), SAVE International (Cascadia Chapter Treasurer, Board Member, and Past-President), and the WA Association of Maintenance & Operation Administrators (WAMOA).

His philosophy for project success is there is no “one size fits all.” With effective communications and strategic messaging and based upon decades of business operations and management experience, Joel’s successful facilitation of multi-disciplinary project teams consistently leads to positive, data-driven decision-making. Ultimately, his joy is found in helping others to achieve and demonstrate excellence in financial stewardship and proactive facility asset management.

Dream job (if you weren’t working here!)?
My time as a Water & Sanitation Volunteer with the US Peace Corps in the Philippines. I loved learning: the culture, the language, the food, and of course the opportunity to facilitate community development, grant writing, system design, and construction of community-based water projects.
